The former Portugese colony of East Timor in the Indonesian archipelago became an independent state today local time. The independence follows a three year period under care of the United Nations. Prior to that East Timor was occupied by Indonesia for a quarter of a century.

Norway is celebrating her national day today the 17th of May. The day is recognized by the calender date. It would be unnecessary to explain for any Norwegian that the historical background of that date is the adoption of the Norwegian constitution in 1814 in the town of Eidsvoll. The constitution is valid even today, allthough some changes have been made by the parliament during the 188 years. The linguistic construction of the constitution remains the same as 1814. That is why an average Norwegian would have some difficulties in understanding some articles of the constitution. Nevertheless, the 17th of May is a major holiday which everybody in Norway celebrates from the bottom of their heart.

Larkolla oli eilen (14.5.2002) kokemus, jota ei hevin soisi vihamiehelleenkään. Sattuneesta syystä piti Telian etumaksuliittymän SIM-kortti uusia. Odottavan aika on aina pitkä, mutta kun kortin rekisteröimiseen kuluu luvatun puolen tunnin asemesta neljä ja puoli, on kärsivällisyys koetuksella.

Helsingin Sanomien mukaan (ks Hesarin artikkeli 19.4.2002) Eduskunnalle 19.4.2002 annettu hallituksen esitys uudeksi sananvapauslaiksi velvoittaisi verkkojulkaisuja nimeämään itselleen vastaavan päätoimittajan. Uusi laki korvaa lähes satavuotiaan painovapauslain ja vuoden 1971 radiovastuulain. Lakiesityksen mukaan netissä noudatettaisiin samoja sääntöjä kuin muissakin medioissa. Larko toteaa, että esitetyn kaltaista lakia olisi mahdotonta soveltaa käytännössä.
