Former U.S. vice president Al Gore announced that he will not run for president in the 2004 presidential election. Gore said he would not want a re-run of election 2000 where he beat president George W Bush by popular vote but was defeated by court ruling. To put it politely, that might not be the only reason why the former vice president would not want to run. Al Gore's withdrawal provides other democratic front runners a chance to step forward.
